Nico Bascom

Hi all !!!

I have known this man for almost three years in SL .. during which time, he has ventured into being a mass builder, a giver to SL, and back to RL! I have watched his advanced building abilities grow and create these wonderful, purely realistic waterfalls! There are in my eyes one of SL's best! I have seen many types, but these have been carefully done, with much time, skill and love. In the following will be a note from Nico and a picture of his wonderful creations... Enjoy!

Here is what he says:

Waterfalls seem to attract everyone. Maybe it is the force, maybye the movement, the way the sun light splashes across the water,..the relaxing sound created as the stream rushes to the sea.
I live in mountains full of waterfalls of different sizes, but all have the qualities mentioned.
Many times, I have set beside or even stood in one letting its elements fill my senses.
Everyone should have the opportunity to experience this pleasure.
One can at least have their own waterfall in this second life. I experimented in many different ways to make realistic waterfalls and continue striving to improve their quality. Many of the falls and grotto's which I have created were at the request of clients.
I strive to build them to the desires of others. Feel free to contact me if you have your own particular water feature waiting to come into existence from your imagination.
Most of the sculpties, and textures which I use for water and rocks are unique.
At the very least, come and experience the serenity here in Quiet Thunder.

Thank you Nico,

Butter

She makes jewelry in Sl and wanted to use Lisa's arts to make some, they are lovely and if you get a chance worth your while to see!! Here is what she says:

Recently, I went to a most unusual art show at the behest of a friend of mine. I didn't expect much but upon my arrival I found it to be a fascinating collection of interesting pieces and to top it all off, everything there was made by a 12 year old girl named Lisa, and sold by her mother, whose Avatar name is Joelle Rodenberger.

Several of the pieces made me think of jewelry, especially this piece, Heart in Fire. I mentioned it to Joelle and eventually, This collection was born. (should you wish to view other pieces by Lisa, I have included a LM for the gallery in the box)

I hope you enjoy it as much as I enjoyed making it. I have made this jewelry out of mostly sculpty parts, making it extremely low prim but very high quality.

Each piece comes with both a bling and a no bling version, so if you don't like bling, you have the option of not having it. I do urge you to at least try it, however, this bling is very different from what you are used to.

The box is transfer so you should be able to give it as a gift and the contents are mod and copy, giving the eventual owner the ability to copy them and fit them to them just right.

It is a beautiful collection and I am glad to have been able to create it and glad to be able to share it. If you should have any questions about this product, please send me a notecard and I will get back with you ASAP.

Questor Llewellyn

Thanks, Joelle and Lisa

Love you both!!!

Metropolis at Diablolus

This was truly a great event tonight at Diablolus!!! They will be doing it again Sunday 3pm sl time but, try to be there an hour earlier, or you may not get in :) Will give some pics of it! Just a few cause its an awesome thing to see! This is a first in SL !!! Thank you Velazquez and Josina, also Debbie Trilling and all those that participated!! Takes about an hour so be ready, all potty breaks and all done and get ready for a wonderful program!

Velazquez Bonetto and Josina Burgess started with working out this Idea to bring it to Second Life.

Velazquez Bonetto rebuild the Whole Metropolis, wrote programms and scripts, situated every scenery at its place and brought new technology into SL .
Josina Burgess created all the caracters, avatars, costumes and together they used Muybridge simulations for mass groups where needed.
Nnoiz Papp wrote and composed the music specially for Metropolis.
Windyy Lane build the upperclass scenery and made all the animations
Sca shilova build the robot and the animations for it.

the actors are:
Debbie Trilling
MillaMilla Noel
Efrantirse Morane
Josina Burgess
Velazquez Bonetto

A Camera system is build in the seats where the audience will sit , also the seats, with audience in it, will fly around in Metropolis form scene to scene to be a "part" of the whole.

Its so far the biggest project ever done on SL, it took months of working, building, creating, rehearsing and animating.
The actors/avatars playing the key figures teleport from stage to stage and perform in between camera close-ups.

The whole Metropolis is a 1 hour breathtaking experience on SL, but not only on SL even in RL people will be able to watch this via You Tube as a new way of making a artistique event going beyond borders.

Friedrich Christian Anton "Fritz" Lang (December 5, 1890 – August 2, 1976) was an Austrian-German-American film director, screenwriter and occasional film producer[1][2]. One of the best known émigrés from Germany's school of Expressionism, he was dubbed the "Master of Darkness" by the BFI.[3] His most famous films are the groundbreaking Metropolis (the world's most expensive silent film at the time of its release) and M, made before he moved to the United States.

Early life
Friedrich Lang was born in Vienna, in what was then Austria-Hungary, to Anton Lang (August 1, 1860–1940), an architect and construction company manager, and Pauline "Paula" Schlesinger (July 26, 1864–1920) on December 5, 1890. He was the second of two sons (his brother Adolf was nearly seven years older). Both his father and his mother were practicing Roman Catholics, although his mother was Jewish and converted to Catholicism when Fritz was ten.[4] Lang himself was baptized at the Schottenkirche in Vienna.

After finishing high school, Lang briefly attended the Technical University of Vienna, where he studied civil engineering and eventually switched to art. In 1910 he left Vienna to see the world, traveling throughout Europe and Africa and later Asia and the Pacific area. In 1913, he studied painting in Paris, France. The next year, he returned home to Vienna at the outbreak of the First World War. In January 1914, he was drafted into service in the Austrian army and fought in Russia and Romania during World War I, where he was wounded three times.

While recovering from his injuries and shell shock in 1916, he wrote some scenarios and ideas for films. He was discharged from the army with the rank of lieutenant in 1918 and did some acting in the Viennese theater circuit for a short time before being hired as a writer at Decla, Erich Pommer's Berlin-based production company.

His writing stint was brief, as Lang soon started to work as a director at the German film studio Ufa, and later Nero-Film, just as the Expressionist movement was building. In this first phase of his career, Lang alternated between art films such as Der Müde Tod (Destiny, literally "Tired Death") and populist thrillers such as Die Spinnen (Spiders), combining popular genres with Expressionist techniques to create an unprecedented synthesis of popular entertainment with art cinema. In 1920, he met his future wife, the writer and actress Thea von Harbou. She and Lang co-wrote the scripts for 1922's Dr. Mabuse, der Spieler (Dr. Mabuse the Gambler), which ran for four hours in two parts in the original version and was the first in the Dr. Mabuse trilogy, 1924's Die Nibelungen, the famed 1927 masterpiece Metropolis, and the 1931 classic, M, his first "talking" picture.

Although some consider Lang's work to be simple melodrama, he produced a coherent oeuvre that helped to establish the characteristics of film noir, with its recurring themes of psychological conflict, paranoia, fate and moral ambiguity. His work influenced filmmakers as disparate as Jacques Rivette and William Friedkin.

In 1931, between Metropolis and Das Testament des Dr. Mabuse, Lang directed what many film scholars consider to be his masterpiece: M, a disturbing story of a child murderer (Peter Lorre in his first starring role) who is hunted down and brought to rough justice by Berlin's criminal underworld. M remains a powerful work; it was remade in 1951 by Joseph Losey, but this version had little impact on audiences, and has become harder to see than the original film.

Lang epitomized the stereotype of the tyrannical German film director such as Erich von Stroheim and Otto Preminger; he was known for being hard to work with. During the climactic final scene in M, he allegedly threw Peter Lorre down a flight of stairs in order to give more authenticity to Lorre's battered look. He even wore a monocle that added to the stereotype.

METROPOLIS
Plot
Note: There are multiple versions of Metropolis. The original, longest version remained unseen except for its initial premiere and release in Germany in 1927. Of this version, a quarter of the footage was believed to be permanently lost, but the German paper Die Zeit reported on 2 July 2008 that a film museum in Argentina had turned up what scholars believe to be a print of Metropolis containing the missing footage. The American version, shortened and re-written by Channing Pollock, is the most commonly known and discussed.

Metropolis is set in the year 2027, in the extraordinary Gothic skyscrapers of a corporate city-state, the metropolis of the title. Society has been divided into two rigid groups: one of planners or thinkers, who live high above the earth in luxury, and another of workers who live underground toiling to sustain the lives of the privileged. The city is run by Johann 'Joh' Fredersen (Alfred Abel).

The beautiful and evangelical Maria (Brigitte Helm) takes up the cause of the workers. She advises the desperate workers not to start a revolution, and instead wait for the arrival of "The Mediator", who will be the "heart" between the "head" – Fredersen the conceiver of the city – and the "hands" – the people who labor to make it a reality. The Mediator, she says, will unite the two halves of society. The son of Fredersen, Freder (Gustav Fröhlich), becomes infatuated with Maria, and follows her down into the worker's underworld, where he experiences firsthand the toiling lifestyle of the workers, and observes the casual attitude of their employers about the workers well-being. He is disgusted after seeing an explosion at the "M-Machine", when the employers bring in new workers to keep the machine running before taking care of the men wounded or killed in the accident. Shocked at the workers' living conditions, he joins Maria's cause.

Meanwhile his father, Fredersen, consults with the scientist Rotwang (Rudolf Klein-Rogge), an old companion and rival. Fredersen learns that the papers found with some dead workers are plans of the catacombs beneath the city, and witnesses a speech by Maria. He also learns that Rotwang has built a robot, and wants to give it the appearance of Hel, his former lover who left him for Fredersen and died giving birth to Freder. Fredersen persuades him to give the robot Maria's appearance instead, as he wants to use the robot to tighten his control over the workers. Rotwang complies out of ulterior motives: he knows about Freder's and Maria's love, and plans to use the robot to deprive Fredersen of his son.

The real Maria is imprisoned in Rotwang's house, while the robot Maria is first showcased as an exotic dancer in the upper city's Yoshiwara nightclub, fomenting discord among the rich young men of the city. The robot then descends into the worker's city and encites the workers into a full-scale rebellion, during which the "Heart Machine", the power station for the city, is destroyed. Neither Freder nor Grot, the foreman of the Heart Machine, can stop them. As the machine is destroyed, the city's reservoirs overflow, flooding the workers' underground city, which would have drowned their children, who were left behind in the riot, if not for the heroic rescue efforts of Freder and Maria.

The workers do not know that their children have been saved, and when they realize the damage they have done and that their children are lost, they attack the upper city. Under the leadership of Grot, they chase the human Maria, whom they hold responsible for their riot. As they break into the city's entertainment district, they run into the Yoshiwara crowd and capture the robot Maria, while the human Maria manages to escape. The workers burn the captured Maria at the stake; Freder, believing this to be the human Maria, despairs, but then he and the workers realize that the burned Maria is in fact a robot.

Meanwhile, the human Maria is chased by Rotwang along the battlements of the city's cathedral. Freder chases after Rotwang, resulting in a climactic scene in which Joh Fredersen watches in terror as his son struggles with Rotwang on the cathedral's roof. Rotwang falls to his death, and Maria and Freder return to the street, where Freder unites Fredersen (the "head") and Grot (the "hands"), fulfilling his role as the "Mediator" (the "heart").

======================================================

Fritz Lang (* 5. Dezember 1890 in Wien; † 2.

Faces of the Sky, by Josina Burgess

Got a landmark from Josina to come see her new project, Faces of the Sky, will place the surl here and will show you a couple pics of it:) I have placed a link to a site about Josina its under the link section to the right of this page! Josina had this to say about Faces of the Sky: When I was experimenting on the Diabolus-Sim with different scripts All of the sudden something happened..
You could say : a "happy accident":)
The textures I used inside a sculpture I was building started to "stream"...
It looked fantastic, and I called Velazquez Bonetto to have a look at it.When I took the sculpture back into my inventory and rezzed it again the scripts didnt do the same anymore
So Velazquez wrote a whole new script that did the job. (in fact he wrote several and they must
be used together)
I was always already fascinated by the Universe..the Galaxy..the Skies..The Planets and I wanted to make something about that
The new Scripts gave me access to what I wanted to make
So velazquez said:" Make Faces of the Sky in your own way.."
I started creating a whole new group of Planets. Not existing but now coming to life in SL.
Velazquez did build the environment for it, a beautiful group of Platforms where the Planets could be on their beautiful own..
Seats lift you up and bring you to them..In the light of the moons (use Midnight) you see the planets in their full Glory and experience a feeling of freedom, being a soul wandering in the galaxy......I am sure you love it. just as I did making them ...
Take care all hugs from, Butter

Frao Ra

Its been a while since I had the opportunity to speak with Frao, a sculpture artist of beautiful color and design.. In Rl, Frao let me know of art done there. I will give you the website and see for yourself. At this time Frao is getting a sim prepared for showing more arts but unfortunately at this time doesn't have a display. Hang in there though I am sure you will get to catch this artists work!!! Check out the RL work done by Frao Ra, I have added a link on the right side of the blog!
PS Frao also has three masks at the Erato of Caerleon event!

Bonjour,

.../...

Hello,
My name is Frao Ra and I build for more than two years in SL.
My name is Frao and I sculpture since meadows of thirty years in RL.
The creation of objects in the improbable, curved forms, round off or more aigues already intrigued me on the marble and the wood, but the discovery of it limps 3D of SL, if it opened me of vast and new horizons, came only to push away the limits of the imagination.
It is for it that my creations in the second life want improbable in the true life, not that I throw back the creation of real objects, but because the possibilities are given to us here, I owe investigate these new territories.
And then I place, in RL, my sculptures in the concept of the
" Dreamlike Archaeology ", as pieces extracted from searches in the strata of a dream. The creation of my adversity was directed in this sense, I built him a story which was only the continuity of this concept.
He too would be in search of these "improbable" objects, made, all the same, essentially for the pleasure of the eye, as for the pleasure to touch the marble in RL. It is only a continuity.
It is for it that SL has nothing for me of "virtual", but is only a new moldable "material" allowing new creations for new meetings...

Frao

Take care all, hugs, Butter

I happened to get this invite and the exhibit of Masks is wonderful. Its not so easy as it looks to twist and turn a prime to make it really look like something, that can be recognized. These have been done very well. One thing about art in SL is, its should be fun, and fill your being with happiness, just to be able to create things, to share with others, isn't that a big part of why we do it? Being a curious person, I had to see the whole sim, which is one of 5 sims dedicated to the Arts in one form or another.
Come take a look on Sunday, during the opening, wont hurt!!!
Hopefully I will get to meet with these find people and talk some with them, however I just wanted share this place with you.

Hi All

Hi, didn't go on SL today worked on the book and some new arts:) However, will tell you I have a passion for SL, the people that have been there a while will know what I mean, its not an addiction really, its a avenue to express yourself in many ways artistically, being able to give to others, a bit of ourselves, and in RL that can be a very hard thing to do on such a large scale, as SL presents. For artists or coming up artists, SL is one of the best ways, to meet other artists, and compare notes, get quick answers, where in RL can you do that, on this scale, would be very hard! In SL are many fine artist, many willing to give ideas and opinions, from around the world!

I personally don't define artist as just canvas junkies but in SL they can explore and do many other forms of art and I really do appreciate many of them. A fact is.. that Sl was built by all of us, each and every inch, and it amazes me! It should amaze all who really understand this Metaverse world, the clothes makers, the builders of wonderful replicas of RL builds, and new ones, the visual, and audio kinetics, and so much more! All this, for most stimulates the mind and soul. Its a good thing, really. So I hope we, the friends I have in Sl and the coming ones in the future, build this place higher and higher, enjoying what time we can with each other! Its a wonderful adventure, and a well added addition to ones life!

A Day Off.... or was it?

I planned to write on this blog every day but... yesterday was hmm kind of my day off... but was it?
I think I told you in previous days that I was purchasing a bicycle.. well I did, and I think I mentioned I have been walking a couple miles a day. Well I figured it would be lots easier to ride this bike then to walk, by being a bit faster, so off I went yesterday! The terrain where I live is very hilly, and even though my street name is underhill, I am it seems, at the top of the hill! We had an enormous amount of wind as well. On my way all seemed to go well, didn't have to peddle much and felt as though this was going to be an easy way to run some errands. The breeze going was quite strong but ok, and thought its nothing I can't handle. Shortly into the ride, I began to figure out that it was pretty much down hill all the way! I fought some traffic, but was confident. I reach the bank about two miles away and find its closed, missed it being open by half hour, grrr, not far was a store I needed to go to, and was on my way back, up the hill of course. I didn't realize the wind was coming from that direction, and the fact it was up hill was quite a challenge. Half way to my next destination, I stopped for a rest. Geez, I thought, am I going to make up this beast... I did after some trials get to my next stop. That done, finally the ride home, another mile plus. The bicycle functioned well, doing its job wonderfully, but my performance was not as good, instead of getting tense, I just laughed which added to my situation. For example, here I am in all my bike gear, and on my way home, I happen to run in to what we call in florida, a bunch of motorcycle drivers, I mean hundreds, having what was called "beginning party for survival of bike week". These are smaller parties set up for the event called "Bike Week" in Daytona Beach, where thousands of bikers from all over the USA come together to more or less drink themselves to death, and to party in the streets for a week. It cannot be compared to Mardi Gras, and to understand that you would just have to see what I mean by being there. However, yesterday, I got tons of peace signs, and head nods from these Harley drivers, they almost made me feel a part of it, which made me laugh more, for I was no comparison really to these massive machines. Maybe they just felt pity for me LOL. I give the nod back and continue on my way, only to smell the delicious food they were cooking outside, which made me peddle faster to get home to eat! Now, having been on the bike for almost 30 minutes straight, I reach home, against traffic, massive winds and up hill.
At my doorway I climbed off the bike, my legs almost gave out from under me, and this over whelming tiredness came over me. Must have been adrenaline keeping me going all that way, walking was not in anyway the same as this ride. But it did feel good! I managed to get me and my bike inside, head for my room and collapse on my bed! So... you decide if I had a day off or not! I will give you some comparisons and a couple examples of bikers and their companions "biker chic's" for bike week and well... my simple wheels, I think I get more exercise though .. lol ....Butter

PS copy and paste this to view on the web... will give you a look at "Bike Week" , some of which I cannot display on my blog!!!! They really get wild during this event, see what I mean!

Welcome to an adhoc attempt to recapture the fun and color of Memespelunk, the original studio sim of myself Juria Yoshikawa in 2007-2008. Thanks to the kindness of Gwenette Writer and Kennesaw State University of Georgia, I will be able to experiment with the virtual art medium for a bit in peace and quiet. Then in late April (at the same location) I will be showing an older piece some of you may remember called "I'm Not Here" in this space as a part of the Boston Cyber Arts Festival.

For best viewing for the current works, please switch your SUN to MIDNIGHT and turn your SOUND ON (and music off). Wander the sim to discover different experiments I'm currently working on.

Enjoy,
Juria Yoshikawa

more of Jurias work

A note from butterfly, this is really cool, Juria captures sight and sound with wonderful displays of color and with music, as you walk you create your own with musical notes that have been integrated into this wonderful work.. Enjoy!

Added March 24th 2009 More about the artist's work can be found at memespelunk.org and flickr.com/photos/lancesh/collections/72157613007188738/

A little something from the book

As I promised would give you now and then, a little piece of my writings here on the blog so here it is... let me know what you think!

Sitting in her Florida home, chit chatting with friends on the net, BLANK was becoming increasingly restless, chat rooms were becoming full of clique groups and the same ole same ole endless stories, of who was gonna play music next , to lets have a private IM “instant message”, or what is your ASL “age, sex and Location”, for those looking for virtual glorified masturbation with the thought of some hot chic, or guy typing those rise to the occasion words, I like f**king, and constant LOL’s “laugh out loud”. Like a soap, you could leave the chat for a week and swear the same thing was still going on the next time you tuned in. Boredom was her own fault, for in her spare time for several years, almost a decade, she subjected herself to this sometimes mundane activity. This is not to say she didn’t gain many life long friends, and had fun and lots of laughs, however it was time for change...... but what?

Sunset Mar 2009

Been doing a lot of writing lately, and made time to paint this simple painting today. I just imagined being in a serene place, watching the sunset while enjoying the stillness. This is one up for sale if you want it contact me!!

I am purchasing a bicycle today! Been walking about 2 miles a day but wanna go farther faster, LOL...I have some fishing plans for this summer not to far from my home, and will ride the bike there, for exercise and also the view. We usually get Red fish, in the area, trout, sheep head etc, and I love fresh fish!! So wish me luck.

I have been in SL a lot recently... well maybe not a lot compared to what I use to do, but its plenty for me. Just want to tell my friends there in SL .. thanks .. they know what I mean! Good things come those type of people! By the way, met another Novelist on SL we are getting together soon to discuss books!! I also have someone that I am sending a chapter to, so stay tuned, and wish me luck! Love, Butterfly

Got some negative opinions about this pic so changed it to a better maybe sunset lol,

Sunshine, what a wonderful day!

The sun shines on me warmly every day,
and it really doesn't matter if its cloudy or gray.

For in my heart, my life is full of light,
with love of family and friends, it shines so bright.

On my walks each day I see natures play,
all the lovely creatures gathering in their way.

They frolic, and work and seem to get along,
and in the trees the birds sing their sweet song.

Spring has sprung, trees becoming full of blooms, and flowers open wide,
their fragrance is so sweet, as I walk on the roads side.

The breeze, is so gently, not yet to hot you see,
so for now it warms my heart, not over heating like what will be.

So, I smile each day, thankful to be alive and enjoying these days,
For this is me, and these are my ways....

What a wonderful Day!

One of my fears LOL

I live in Jacksonville, Florida, its a huge consolidated city for years, before it was small little towns outside the down town city limits. We are called the river city, cause we are surrounded by water, by the St Johns river and other waterways around till it all comes to the sea, the atlantic. We have the one of two rivers that flow north in America. Thought for the longest that we had the only one and at the time can't remember where the other is but it is! So being called the river city, we have many huge bridges here, and for years have crossed all of them with ease.....until this new one the Danes point bridge. Its the tallest and has a huge over head span, which makes it intimidating a bit..smiles. The first time I crossed it, took my youngest son, we started up and all was well till I came to the tall things on top.. kept telling my son "wow look at all the ships down there" but he started to notice I started hugging the steering wheel closely, he asks, "Mom, you ok" I reply, "Yes, why do you ask?" " Your holding the steering wheel so tightly!" "Oh, I am just trying to see that wonderful artistry above us! In reality I was not a happy camper! Take a look at its size! One thing is sure I will conquer it one day! Love to all, Butter

The Sea in Florida... by moon light !

There is nothing like a soft summer breeze, and a full moon that can take my breath away, soft sand between my toes, laying back on a blanket, hearing the waves, and viewing the stars! I hope you can get the picture!! Well the original of this, was lost had to paint another, who knows might be better than the first... Hope you enjoy! Butter

Friday The 13th Good or Bad ?

Well here in America we deal with Friday the 13th in many ways. Its suppose to be a day of great superstition and many have a terrible fear of this day and the phobia name for this fear is paraskevidekatriaphobia, that name is scary enough, especially for fearful. I usually find out its Friday the 13th the day after, because I am usually planning for my weekend on that day, smiles! But this Friday was different, went to write more on my novel and do a few more transfers of sketches that I had created, and the computer got a virus... a bad Trojan.. lost a few newly created paintings in the program, all in all not to much of anything lost. I will just recreate the ones lost, hopefully better than the ones before! :) So, we reformated and success and reinstalled all and the lucky part was, we got to clean out a lot of junk in the pc, which I suppose you could say it was a lucky day for me! How was this day for you, full of ghost, bad events or a lucky one, like it was for me?

Do you know this guy??

My son loves music and so he and I are getting with a manufacture soon to show some Tee's, and logos we have made. This one is going is for private use only, thought you might like to see it though. It will really stand out on a black shirt don't you think?

Butterfly Painting

I have spent sometime with computer programs in the last months, and again I say the mouse is quite versatile, once you beat it a few times...Smiles! Been experimenting with all types of paintings. This particular one was made on a whim, while eating lunch one day! Was just playing with colors and shapes and there it came, evolved right before my eyes! Enjoy Let me know what you think, send me a post. Thanks, Butter

Nice to be back

I have been away for some time and I thank all the people I care about showing their concerns over the last months through emails, and some in world visits, and for those who just had to wonder for a while where I was. I had to move but it was an awesome adventure and my son and I have really enjoyed our new place!

I have been writing and painting, this one called art supplies is a straight drawing/painting but in a graphic online program, little different than using a brush, tackled this one though with a mouse, along with others I will be showing you in the future! Might invest in a graphics pen one day, however wanted to explore the hardest way first!

About writing..... have a book well into the making now, and might just share a few lines here and there with you all. Feel free to give any input you so desire as well along the way! No completion date as of yet for its been redone and now has turned into a Novel.
